Hip-Hop Remembers Notorious B.I.G. (#RIPBIG)

Today marks the 13th year since Brooklyn bred emcee Christopher B.I.G. Wallace passed away. He was born on May 21st, 1972 and tragically slain on March 9th, 1997, his murder until this day remains unsolved. B.I.G. is considered a martyr in the Hip-Hop community, many believing his life was taken at a time where a beef between the infamous rise of the east coast vs west began. Using many monikers; Biggie Smalls, Frank White or sometimes just simply Biggie, by any name he is revered for his contributions to the music made in his short career.

Releasing two LPs while alive, both achieving a great amount of success, Biggie is one of a short list of rap acts to be certified Diamond status with the RIAA in album sells (Outkast, Eminem and MC Hammer). B.I.G. was noticed for his unique voice, delivery, wordplay and punchlines, spouting rap quotables such as “You’re reign on the top was short like Leprachauns”, “I think they got cum in them, cause they nothin but dicks, tryin to blow up like Nitro and Dynamite sticks” and a plethora of witty lyrics in his verse that has modern day emcees still trying to measure up to the style Biggie mastered.

The late great lyricists leaves behind a wife, singer Faith Evans, and two children, Tyanna and CJ. His legacy continues to live in his influence over the game in which we know it. Rest In Peace Big Poppa.
